Sahale Peak - Sahale Glacier
Overview:
This route begins at the Cascade Pass trailhead at the end of Cascade River Road. The climb starts with a well-graded trail that switchbacks steadily through beautiful subalpine forest until Cascade Pass is reached. From the pass, we’ll turn north and ascend the stunning alpine meadows of the Sahale Arm, keeping an eye out for local wildlife and taking in massive views of Johannesburg Mountain. Above the arm, the trail transitions into a rugged talus field that we’ll climb until reaching the Sahale Glacier bivy sites. From camp, you’ll rope up and step onto the snow slopes of the Sahale Glacier, ascending steady terrain until the base of the summit block is reached. The final challenge is a thrilling rock scramble up the steep summit pyramid. The exposed Class 3-4 moves are an exciting end to this climb to reach the summit of one of the most scenic and rewarding perches in the North Cascades!
