Liberty Bell - Beckey Route
Overview:
This classic route begins at the Blue Lake trailhead off the North Cascades Highway (Highway 20). The climb starts with a pleasant, well-maintained trail that winds through subalpine forest toward the pristine shores of Blue Lake. Just before reaching the water, we’ll veer off onto a steep climbers' trail, ascending toward the imposing west face of Liberty Bell. The final stretch of the approach takes us up the rugged and loose "Beckey Gully" to reach the prominent notch between Liberty Bell and Concord Tower.
From the notch, we’ll rope up for four pitches of stellar, moderate multi-pitch traditional climbing (rated 5.6). You’ll navigate a wide chimney on pitch one, a fun crack-and-slab system on pitch two, and an exciting finger-crack traverse under a massive roof on pitch three. The final hurdle is a short, thrilling 10-foot slab boulder problem on pitch four, leading to a scenic 3rd and 4th-class scramble. Reaching the summit of this iconic Washington Pass giant offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the Wine Spires, Early Winter Spires, and the rugged heart of the North Cascades!
