Hawkins Mountain
The Salmon La Sac area, just above Cle Elum Lake is a wonderful place to be in June. Temperatures are pleasant, snow typically melts out a bit earlier than the peaks further west and there are a plethora of mountains to be climbed. Red Mountain, Jolly Mountain, Davis Peak, Hawkins are all great examples of straightforward peaks with rewarding views at the top. Liz and I decided Hawkins would be a great day trip to take our four brothers. The boys grew up in North Bend, they are all exceptionally fit for their age, so it was a quick and easy ascent. At the trailhead, there was a strange and highly intoxicated man who followed us for a bit…. but thankfully he was pretty harmless. There was an easy trail to follow almost the entire way and we had the mountain to ourselves, minus one party of two on the top. No snow was a bonus :)
Getting above treeline.
Hawkins Mountain from the start of the ridge.
Awesome smooth ridgeline to the summit.
Looking into Teanaway.
Family summit on top of Hawkins.
Looking towards Hawkins Thimble, a 4th class scramble gets you to the top from the saddle between Hawkins & the thimble.
